Trip Organizer(s): Paul (Kenneth) Thompson (notestkp@gmail.com) [Organizer] with Akira Tomizawa and Fayyaz Mahmood
Trip Type: Wilderness Camping
Group Size: 6 to 8 (total)
GLSKA trip classification: B2

Trip Description:

Meet at 11:00 on June 30 for a noon launch from Dillon marina. Parking is a flat rate $10.00 per day.
The paddle to Big McCoy is 14 kilometers with an open crossing of 5 kilometers. You need to be capable of paddling 5.5 to 6 kilometer per hour for 1 hour or more with 1 meter waves.  If the weather forecast has high winds and waves the alternate destination will be Franklin Island with possible launch at Snug Harbour. You will be contacted.
We will camp on Big McCoy for three nights. Depending on weather conditions. One paddle destination is down around the Mink Islands to possibly Red Rock LightHouse an 26 km round trip. The other paddle destination is around Shagwanga Island for 30 km. Both trips are on crown land so if the primary camping spots are taken we will find another spot. Both trips could be 6 to 9 hours.
Thursday morning we will return to Dillon Marine for noon. If  the weather is not safe it will be on Friday for noon.

Notes:

Spend Canada Day on Georgian Bay. There are already three on the list. We are familiar with the area.
Safety is the main priority. You must be able to do a self rescue.
Only safety equipment and back up paddle should be on the kayak deck. A wet suit would be advisable. You are encouraged to bring your own navigation items.
You must be completely self-sufficient. Bring a seaworthy kayak and safety equipment, camping gear, food (due to weather conditions bring food for one more day), water filter and other supplies.
Bring insect spray for ticks. A tick removal kit. Bring proper footwear because the rocks could be quite slippery. A possible hike is around Big McCoy Island. There is poison ivy and possible snakes.
Be prepared to assist carrying each other’s boats in and out of the water during the whole trip. The landings and launches will be on rock shelves.
For nature’s sake no campfires please. For tripping we need to be on the water at 9:00 am.

Meeting Location: Dillon Marina. (Alternate Snug Harbour.) Daily parking fee is $10.00 per day to be paid by you before you launch.
Meeting Time: 11:00 am on Monday 30 June. On the water at 12:00
