The first phase of the re-working of the club’s website has now been completed and tested. The new version will go live on Thursday 17 April. Our address remains the same – https://glska.com. If you have an older address bookmarked in your browser involving the http://glska.freehostia.com domain name it will no longer work. Most of the site’s content will be familiar to you – it represents the valuable work done by our first webmaster Sandy Richardson – however, the appearance and site navigation have been substantially changed, and we have added a search function and structured the site differently. Our sincere thanks for this work go to Michiel Duvekot, who joined the club last year. Michiel’s close involvement with the site will continue, as he is our new webmaster.
We hope the new look will encourage both members and visitors to explore the large collection of trip reports, skill-building articles and other kayak-related materials the site offers.
Among the changes, you will notice that a current list of GLSKA trips is posted, with each posting providing a link to the trip organizer and an notification of the trip’s sign-up status. Trip reports are now organized geographically as well as chronologically. The newsletter index and archive have been integrated. Some features, such as the GLSKA Book Shop, have been discontinued. We continue to feature our useful but under-used Member’s Forum. If you had an account on the old site, that will no longer work. You will have to re-register.
We hope you will enjoy the changes we have made. As with all websites of this size there may be things we have missed – links that don’t work as they should, errors in the texts etc. If you find any, please let Michiel Duvekot know, so he can fix them. An FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page has been set up to provide answers about how the site works.
If you have comments about the policy behind the changes we have made, please send them to Keith Rodgers or other board members.
