Past Trips & Paddles
Minks and McCoys Tue Jul 14 – Fri Jul 17, 2015
Trip Description: Plan to meet on Tuesday July 14th at 10:30 at Dillon Marina. After put in, we will paddle for about 2 hours to find a suitable campsite on Big McCoy Island. We will set up camp for three nights and spend two days exploring the area. Harvey Sadowick and Paul Thompson will plan day trips from McCoy for Wednesday and Thursday. Friday we will pack up and return to Dillon Marina. This has been a traditional trip for some and the emphasis will be on the joy of paddling and social interaction. This trip has been arranged due to the large response for the trip scheduled for July 7th and is full with the overflow from the original trip.
SNAKE BIG MCCOY GREEN ISLANDS August 13-16

On Saturday August 15, we will paddle to Green Island to set up camp for the evening. After set-up and depending on people’s interest, we will paddle to one or both of the Limestones to check out the fossils, or just stay at Green Island. FISHING ISLANDS LAKE HURON June 13
Join us for the 12th annual Fishing Islands Trip. The Fishing Islands are an archipelago of over 70 dolomite islands off the western shore of the Bruce Peninsula. They are rich in history, with a number of shipwrecks and remains, interesting geology and nesting areas for gulls, cormorants, herons and bald eagles. We will put in at the beach in Howdenvale and explore the northern islands, returning to Howdenvale. We can visit the ruins of the Main Station Island Fishing Station, and the Gold Hunter and/or Sarah shipwrecks (swimming/diving on them if the water is warm enough); we can also search for the wreck of the Phoenix. The length of the trip will depend upon the weather and people’s interests, but will probably be about 15-20 kilometres. (See Bruce Peninsula Paddling Destinations – Fishing Islands for a description of the route.)
