This park, located at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, is the perfect location for a multi-day trip where the paddler can explore the many islands making up the park from a base camp on Flowerpot island, the only location in the park where camping is permitted. Shorter day-trips involving visits to any of the islands nearer the mainland are also possible.

Missing out on the glorious mild weather of last May, it wasn’t until the end of the first week in June that I finally was ready to launch my baidarka into the clear, cold waters of Lake Superior at the beach in Silver Islet, a charming village on the tip of the Sibley Peninsula.

The lake temperature was 59 degrees F, the air 55°, wind was 15-20 knots from the northwest with gusts, waves were running 4-6 feet with a few whitecaps near shore, small craft warnings were in effect.
