Circumnavigation of Lyal Island

The somewhat protected waters of Stokes Bay and Myles Bay on the west side of the Bruce Peninsula provide an excellent area for a single-day loop-trip. The trip is approximately 12 kilometres in length and requires about 4 hours of leisurely paddling not including sightseeing stops or refreshment breaks.

This trip can be done either as a 20 kilometre round trip, (which would include the circumnavigation of Cove Island), or a shorter day-trip involving visits to the island’s picturesque west coast, or as one component of a multi-day excursion involving camping on Flowerpot Island.

This park, located at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, is the perfect location for a multi-day trip where the paddler can explore the many islands making up the park from a base camp on Flowerpot island, the only location in the park where camping is permitted. Shorter day-trips involving visits to any of the islands nearer the mainland are also possible.
