This is the resurrection of GLSKA’s Fall Gathering/Clean-up weekend that used to be held every year. Evidently the need still exists and as usual will be focused on the Franklin Island area. According to White Squall this is the area in most need of cleanup and if this area can be kept reasonably clean it will hopefully dissuade the masses from spreading farther afield.
We will paddle out from Snug Harbour and camp at an area on the eastern side of Franklin Island large enough for the size of the group.
Please join us Friday for some exploring or by 9 – 10 AM Saturday. Depending on the number and ability of attendees, teams will be sent out Saturday morning between 9 and 10AM to the more heavily used areas of Franklin Island and surrounding islands.
The goal is to pick up litter, check on thunder boxes and move if necessary, and clean and disassemble fire pits. Bags, gloves, and shovels will be provided. As with the Rendezvous, all levels of kayakers are encouraged to participate in this important stewardship. Sunday is a free day so after packing up we can form into groups, and explore a variety of destinations or just head home.
Rain will result in the event being moved to the following spring. Please express your interest by September 13.
