Trip Description:
Departing from Chikanishing Creek, we will explore the islands of the area and plan to camp at a number of different sites.
Please note:
Participants must be capable of self and assisted rescues.
Best suited to people that can be on the water early, if weather determines this. Participants must be willing to paddle as a group and have a map to use.
There may be breaks for photography or practicing skills. Participants are responsible for bringing all food, camping and paddling gear.
Camping will be no-trace camping, with no camp fires.
Participants should be prepared to paddle distances of 20 km or more in six hours and be comfortable paddling in up to 1 meter waves and some open crossings.
Participants must have practiced a wet exit and re-entry within the last twelve months.
Daily Vehicle permits can be bought at Killarney /George Lake office or use an Ontario Provincial Park Seasonal Pass.
Any participants new to GLSKA, or anyone that the trip organizer has not paddled with before, will be asked to complete a questionnaire and/or Zoom meeting.
GLSKA trip classification: C-2 (GLSKA Trip Classification)
C = Strenuous: Daily paddling typically more than 5 hours, with distances of 20 kilometers or more.
2= Intermediate: Requires basic paddling skills including the ability to brace, self-rescue, and participate in assisted rescues, comfortable in one-metre waves. Mostly protected waters, some difficult landings, and some sheltered spots for resting.
