Lady Evelyn Lake / Maple Mountain / Lake Temagami – August 11 – 17, 2024

Trip Description:
Day 1: Launch at Mowat Landing on Montreal River on 11 August at 11am and paddle south on Lady Evelyn River then west into Lady Evelyn Lake, find a suitable camp spot (20-25K)
Please note: There is a 270M portage approx. 1.2K after the launch. A boat shuttle is available for a fee ($15/boat in 2022) to transport the boats up to Lady Evelyn River.

Day 2: Continue on Lady Evelyn Lake to Lady Evelyn PP and find a camp spot in the Sucker Gut Lake / Lake Hobart area (20-25K)

Day 3: Paddle to Tupper Lake to the Maple Mountain trail access, hike up Maple Mountain (3.3K / 1.5hrs one way) and return to the previous night’s campsite (5-10K)

Day 4: Paddle back to Lady Evelyn Lake and head south towards Diamond Lake, find a suitable camp spot for two nights (20-25K)

Day 5: Spend the day exploring the Diamond Lake area (look for pictographs?)

Day 6: Paddle to SE point of Diamond Lake, portage approx. 120M to Sharp Rock Inlet, continue paddling south into Lake Temagami find a suitable camp spot in the Bear Island area (20-25K)

Day 7: Paddle to final trip destination (5-25K depending on location of shuttle car)

Notes:
This trip is all paddling within an inland lake system with open water crossings of up to 2K. Paddling pace 6-8K/hr for up to two hours continuously. Approximate daily paddling distance up to 25K. Part of the trip will require back country permits for 3-4 nights for Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater PP, permits can be obtained through Finlayson PP / Temagami. Park office open 8:30am-9pm daily.

Suggested trip preparation:
Packing warm clothing, extra rations of food and cooking fuel to last beyond the scheduled trip duration is recommended. Every participant is responsible to take along all gear, food and fuel as if he/she is going alone. In addition every participant must be a current GLSKA member and must acknowledge and sign a trip specific liability release prior to the trip.

Meeting Location:  Finlayson Provincial Park. We will purchase back country permits, park shuttle car at take out point and drive to Mowat Landing (1 hour north from Temagami)
