Mink and McCoys

Dates: July 18, 2026 – July 20, 2026
Trip Organizer(s): Liora Freedman liorafreedman@gmail.com
Trip Type: Wilderness Camping
Group Size: Max 4
GLSKA trip classification: B2

Trip Description:

Participants must be comfortable with 1-2km open water crossings and have the usual self-rescue abilities.

Camp 2 nights on Big McCoy, approximately 15km of paddling to get there. If sites are taken participants should be prepared to travel farther. Worst case scenario paddle up to an additional 10km to Shawanaga Islands to camp. I’ve never camped there but I called the First Nations and sites are available for free. Day 1 launch and set up camp. Optional evening paddle. Pack lunch and paddle the Minks on July 19, maybe find the ship wreck. Or explore Hertzberg and Shawanaga islands to the north pending group interest. I’ve never paddled those north islands so it would be an exploratory paddle. Day 3 pack down and paddle out.

Notes:

– 20km+ of paddling per day at 5km/hr pending conditions and abilities. If participants want to paddle longer / farther we will.
– there will be time for swimming and leisure
– meet at Dillon Cove Marina docks at 10:30am. Launch at 11:30. There is a dock for kayaks. Parking is up the hill. Unload and then park. If the launch time is a concern please contact me for an alternative time. Participants pay to park per day. https://dilloncove.com/.

Meeting Location: Dillon Cove Marina docks
Meeting Time: 10:30am. Launch at 11:30am
