North Channel – Whalesback channel August 10-16

Come with us and explore the chain of islands that form the Whalesback Channel which is said to be the most scenic Great Lakes waterway in Ontario’s Algoma Country. Serpent River Campground (between Spragge and Spanish River, Ontario) is where we will meet for camping the first night, and will be launching from, parking at and returning to. Paddling distances will range from 18 to 22 km daily with the exception of one 30 km day. Total trip distance is approximately 120 km. We will spend each night at a different camp spot except for the two nights bracketing the day we circumnavigate Aird Island. Wave and wind conditions may cause us to alter planned routes. Participants must be experienced wilderness campers, capable of self rescues, be comfortable paddling in 1 meter waves in moderate to strong winds and crossings of up to 4 km.
