Philip Edward Island – Georgian Bay: August 12 – 16, 2024

Trip Description:
Meet at the George Lake entrance to Killarney Provincial Park at noon on Monday, August 12 to purchase your vehicle parking pass at the Park office.
We will launch from Chikanishing Creek and search for a base camp. The area’s increase in popularity may require us to paddle some distance to find an appropriate campsite. Participants should be prepared to move camp if required. Over the following days we will visit the south shore of Philip Edward Island and the surrounding islands.

Notes:
Participants must be GLSKA members and be comfortable making 6 km crossings and paddling for extended periods over open water in 0.5-to-1-meter waves. The many shoals, reefs and rock ledges in this stretch of Georgian Bay can make paddling challenging. Our paddling pace will vary between 4 and 6 km per hour. Be prepared to paddle a minimum of 6 hours each day.
It is required that you have experienced at least two self-contained (non-guided) backcountry kayak trips before, be in good physical shape, and be capable of self and assisted rescues. Each participant is responsible for taking along all personal gear, food, fuel, first aid kits, water filter/supply, bear care, maps/charts for navigating and be completely self-sufficient. Participants must have seaworthy kayaks with all required safety equipment (incl. PFD, back up paddle, skirt, etc.). A wet suit or dry suit is also required.

Interested paddlers will be notified by end of day June 1st as to whether or not they have a spot on this trip.
