Our summer kayaking trips weren’t happening as planned. An extended trip in early July had to be cancelled because of an urgent family matter. Summer holidays were passing by quickly, and other than the GLSKA Rendezvous we hadn’t been on any trips yet and Georgian Bay was calling.

It was Sunday morning, May 4, 2008; skies were gloomy and tree tops were swaying. I had had a GLSKA day-trip planned for the Saturday of that weekend with 10 paddlers coming but cancelled because of bad weather, so today was our rain date.

Lake Superior: Silver Islet to Rossport

Our departure time was planned for 6 a.m., however one member thinking that they may not be able to shower for a week or so, decided they should take the extra time now to do this important thing, delaying our start time. Had they known we would be in continual rain for the next two days on our way to Silver Islet, they perhaps would have realized they would have several ‘showers’ in the next few days.
