Launch on 20 May from Snug Harbour and set up camp for three nights on Franklin Island at designated camp area. You can arrive anytime but should leave Snug Harbour by 7:00PM to ensure you have sufficient daylight to make the crossing by 8:50PM. The straight-line distance from Snug Harbour to the probable campsite is approximately 3 km. I will be travelling out May 19 to select a spot. I will erect a Canadian flag at the selected camp site. If you need to be escorted across or will be arriving late, please let me know.
Saturday and Sunday will be spent exploring the area around Franklin Island with the possibility of a trip to Killbear Provincial Park depending on wind and wave conditions. If foul weather is forecast for Monday we may return to Snug Harbour on Sunday. As the water will still be cold, it is recommended that you bring a wet suit or dry suit although the decision to wear is entirely up to you. We will for the most part be travelling close to shore except when paddling back and forth to Franklin Island.
Please note:
Parking is available for $10/day at Gilly’s that may be closed but will accept payment in a drop box.
There is no rain date. Only those serious about participating should apply.
