We will meet at Rocher Rouge Campground in Killarney on Monday, July 4th where we will stay the night. Early Tuesday Morning, we will drive to the public launch in Killarney, off-load kayaks and gear and be on our way. Tuesday evening, we will camp in the Phillip Edward Island area. For the remainder of the trip, we will continue paddling east along the shoreline, past Point Grondin and into the West French River area. Weather permitting, we will visit the Bustards. We plan to arrive in Britt on Sunday morning.
On Monday, July 4, a vehicle will be left in Britt. At the end of the trip, this vehicle will return the drivers to their vehicles at the Rocher Rouge Campground. Camping and parking fees apply.
Please note:
Participants must be comfortable making 6 km crossings and paddling for extended periods over open water in 0.5 to 1-meter waves. The many shoals, reefs and rock ledges in this stretch of Georgian Bay can make paddling challenging. Our paddling pace will vary between 4 and 6 km per hour. Be prepared to paddle a minimum of 6 hours each day.
We recommend that you have done at least two self-contained (non-guided) trips before, be in good shape, and be capable of self- and assisted rescues.
Every participant is responsible for taking along all gear, food and fuel and be self-sufficient.
Participants must be GLSKA members and be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. A Covid-19 Screening Questionnaire and more trip information will be provided to trip participants.
GLSKA trip classification: C-2 (GLSKA Trip Classification)
C = Strenuous: Daily paddling typically more than 5 hours, with distances of 20 kilometers or more.
2 = Intermediate: Requires basic paddling skills including the ability to brace, self-rescue, and
participate in assisted rescues, comfortable in one-metre waves. Mostly protected waters, some
difficult landings, and some sheltered spots for resting.
