Lake Superior – Rossport to Black Bay Peninsula, 22 – 29 July 2021

Launch on Thursday, 22 July – 10am at Rossport. This trip will take us through the islands south of Rossport, along the south shores of Simpson and St. Ignace Islands, towards Black Bay Peninsula and back to Rossport. We will camp in a different location most night’s including at the CPR Spit with the possibility of enjoying a sauna and some good fishing.

This trip will include the eastern portion of the route as described here: Paddling Routes – Lake Superior Adventures select “Sibley to Rossport”.

Please note: This trip includes exposed paddling along shore lines with 4-6K open water crossings. Paddling pace 6-8K / hr for up to two hours continuously. Approximate daily paddling distance is 20-30K. Lake Superior water is typically cold at 10˚C or less during the summer months. A dry or wet suit is a must for this trip.

Suggested trip preparation: Packing warm clothing, extra rations of food and cooking fuel to last beyond the scheduled trip duration is recommended. Every participant is responsible to take along all gear, food and fuel as if he/she is going alone. In addition every participant must be a current GLSKA member and must acknowledge and sign a trip specific liability release prior to the trip..

GLSKA trip classification: C-3  (GLSKA Trip Classification)
C = Strenuous: Daily paddling typically more than 5 hours, with distances of 20 kilometers or more.
3 = Experienced: Requires advanced paddling, seamanship and rescue skills. Ability to handle waves greater than 1 meter. Expect exposed waters, open crossings, large waves and moderate to strong winds, surf, fog, and potentially difficult landings. Sheltered resting and landing spots could be few.
