Imagine exploring an archipelago of over 70 dolomite islands located no more than 3 kilometres from the western shoreline of the Bruce Peninsula. The Fishing Islands offer just such an experience. The trip through the islands from Oliphant to Red Bay or Howdenvale can vary in length from 11 to 15 kilometres depending on the number of islands explored. This trip is usually done as a day trip but it may also be combined with other sections along the Bruce Peninsula to become one leg of an extended trip.

The trip along the Georgian Bay shoreline of the Bruce Peninsula from Lion’s Head to Barrow Bay is approximately 12 kilometres in length. One should allow the better part of a day to enjoy it as a day-trip, or could make it a leisurely two-day trip by camping at McKay’s Harbour where an old logging road leads up to the Bruce Trail.

Circumnavigation of Lyal Island

The somewhat protected waters of Stokes Bay and Myles Bay on the west side of the Bruce Peninsula provide an excellent area for a single-day loop-trip. The trip is approximately 12 kilometres in length and requires about 4 hours of leisurely paddling not including sightseeing stops or refreshment breaks.
